Programs
Conversation Partners or Conversation Corners
Come, meet new people, make friends, and of course improve your language proficiency (pronunciation, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, etc.). You will gather with a group of people at one of our buildings to practice your English through 1-on-1 casual conversation with a volunteer. There will be a lesson topic provided with an optional Christian component. Time Commitment: One semester: 2 hours/week Conversation Corner is located at the Hospitality Center in Saint Paul (1407 Cleveland Ave N) and meets every Wednesday from 7:00 PM–8:30 PM Conversation Partners is located at the Snow Family International Center (3300 University Ave SE) and meets every Thursday from 7:00 PM–8:30 PM |
Food with Friends
Meet new people, eat good food and start to build community during your time here in Minnesota! If you want to gain a network of friends during your time here, what better way to do it than over a meal? Typically groups range in size from 6–12 people in total. We expect you to find some friends to help you out! You can sign-up on your own or with friends! Time commitment: 3 months, 4–6 hours/month Hiking Club Explore Minnesota with your friends with a series of hikes with the same group of people! This is a great way to get to know the outdoors of MN and to get to know new friends. The group will be anywhere from 10–20 people in size and will hike together once a month at a pre-determined date, time, and location. Time commitment: 3 months, 6–8 hours/month |
Friendship Match
Get connected with a Hospitality Center volunteer for one semester. Get to know each other, have meaningful conversations and enjoy some of the great indoor and outdoor activities available to us in the Twin Cities and the surrounding areas. You and your friend decide together when and where you will meet. Every pair is expected to have one meal together, go on an hike or walk together, and come to our end-of-semester celebration at Como Park. Eating together is always a great way to begin. Time commitment: One semester; 3-6 hours a month |
Hospitality Center Student Group
The Hospitality Student Group is a registered student-led organization at UMN which exists to welcome and connect international students to local communities. The student group plays a pivotal role in our annual arrival season and in our Celebration Meals throughout the year. This is a great opportunity to develop yourself, experience deeper community, and serve international students at UMN. Time commitment: 1 School Year; 2 meetings a month + active participation in Hospitality Center Events |
